Swords Celtic Football Club established 50 years ago and today is widely regarded as one of the foremost junior soccer clubs In Ireland. Back in 1962 from a humble beginning, little was it realized the way the club would progress to its present size.The fact that some founder members are still involved today to see the transformation is testimony of their dedication.For over 21 years Swords Celtic succeeded in fielding two senior teams and three youth teams. However, it soon became necessary to incorporate a youth policy to ensure a life-blood for the club.As luck would have it, in a neighbouring parish a ready-made schoolboy club existed, and in 1983 Swords Celtic merged with St. Cronan’s Schoolboy Club.Today, the club is thriving with a membership of 600 that includes 31 schoolboys teams, a girls’ team, three senior teams, four full-size pitches and three schoolboy pitches, an all-weather pitch and state-of-the-art clubhouse.
